Terms + Conditions
The Mornington Peninsula Contemporary At Prize (MPCAP) is an annual competition open to all Australian artists.
Eligibility:
Artist must be 18 years of age or over. Be an Australian citizen, or permanent resident of Australia.
Eligible artworks: oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, printmaking, pencil, textile, and mixed media on linen, canvas, paper or other suitable substrate for hanging are all acceptable. (Photographs, 3D works, multi-media, digital, video or works featuring AI generated content do not qualify for entry.)
Artists can enter one artwork for consideration.
The artwork must relate somehow to this year’s theme.
Gallerists are welcome to submit an application on behalf of an artist, with the artist’s permission.
Exhibition space is limited, size of entries (framed or unframed) must not exceed 150cm (1500mm) in height or 70cm (700mm) in width.
Only entries submitted via our online form will be considered.
All work submitted for consideration must have a completion date no earlier than 1 January 2023.
The submitted work must not be the winner of any other competition. If notified of winning another award after the work has been submitted for entry, the artist must notify MPCAP immediately, and the work will be removed from the pool of entries for judging.
Current Cook Street Collective members are ineligible to enter.
MPCAP reserves the right not to accept any entry.
Awards + Judging:
- MPCAP2024 award – non-acquisitive $3,000.
- Best Mornington Peninsula artwork – non-acquisitive $1,000
- Peoples choice award – 3 week solo exhibition in the Blackroom at Cook Street Collective.
The MPCAP committee, lead by guest Judge Dunja Rmandić will select the finalists, the panel will review all valid applications received.
The finalists announcement will be made online at www.mpcap.au, only the finalists selected will receive a confirmation email. Please check the website on 23rd September for the selection news.
Guest Judge Dunja Rmandić will select the MPCAP winner and Best Mornington Peninsula work (A work of or inspired by The Mornington Peninsula.)
All prizes are non-acquisitive.
The judges decision will be final.
The peoples choice award will be awarded to the finalist with the highest number of public votes at the close of the exhibition.
Entry fees:
Entry price is $30
Entry fees are non-refundable and include GST. Payment can ONLY be made online via our online entry form page.
An electronic receipt will be provided on successful payment for awards entry.
Finalists Information:
Finalists’ entries must be displayed for the entire duration of the exhibition.
All artworks submitted by finalists must be exhibition ready, ie framed and ready for hanging with d-rings attached.
All artworks must be labelled clearly on the back with artist’s name, title of work and date of artwork completion.
All artworks submitted must be available for sale. The price given on the entry form must include GST, if applicable and MPCAP commission. (Please note if the artwork is subsequently sold prior to the exhibition then you will still be required to pay MPCAP the commission.)
A commission of 30% will apply to all works sold where the artist is not represented in Victoria. If the artist is represented in Victoria then the commission will be 40% (this will be split 20%/20% with the representing gallery.)
Artists whose artwork is selected for the exhibition give consent to their works being reproduced by print and electronic media in the advertising and promotion for current and future MPCAP.
Artists who’s artwork is selected for the exhibition give consent for their name, state and artwork details to be listed on the MPCAP website, artwork labels and other print and electronic media.
Finalists will be announced via this website on 23 September 2024. Details will include the names of the successful artists, the state they live, and artwork details as recorded on their entry form.
Freight
Artworks submitted will not be accepted unless delivered free of all freight and transport expenses to the exhibition venue Cook Street Collective at 41 Cook Street, Flinders. Vic. or Flinders Post Office (Cook Street Collective, PO Box 211, Flinders. Vic 3929)
Unsold artworks are required to be collected at the completion of the exhibition as per the schedule set out below.
Insurance
MPCAP and Cook Street Collective will exercise all due care with submitted works but will not be responsible for any loss or damage suffered whatsoever to any artwork while in transit or under its control. Artists will be responsible for their own insurance cover of their artworks and indemnify MPCAP and Cook Street Collective against any loss or damage to the artwork whatsoever.
